Obituary for Kathleen A. Matott

Kathleen A.  Matott
Kathleen A. Matott, 55, of Camillus, most beloved daughter, sister, aunt and friend to all who had the good fortune to know her, was called home to our Lord on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at Van Duyn Home & Hospital. A lifetime resident of the Syracuse area, she graduated from Mohawk Valley Community College and SUNY Potsdam with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. She taught at St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic School, Holy Family School and BOCES Adult Education.

Kathy was employed with the US Postal Service for 17 years. She was a former communicant of St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church and a communicant of Holy Family Church where she served as a Eucharistic minister. Kathy was involved with bible studies at the church, taught religious education and served on the educational committee. She also volunteered as a tutor for adult literacy. Kathy was predeceased by her father, Andrew Kowalczyk; and brother, Richard Kowalczyk. She truly touched many lives and will be greatly missed but forever remembered by all those who had come in contact with her.

Surviving are her mother, Mary Kowalczyk of Fairmount; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ellen and Dave Masterpole of Syracuse; brothers and sister-in-law, Dr. Nicholas and Andria Kowalczyk of Chandler, Arizona and David A. Kowalczyk of Fairmount; best friend, Linda Zalewski; beloved cats, Paws and Maggie; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2008 at the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus and at noon in Holy Family Church where a funeral Mass will be celebrated. Friends may call Friday, April 25, 2008 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Syracuse.
